GE Shelton Wins Award & Supports Valley United Way
For the second time in three years, the United Way campaign committee in Shelton has won a special award from GE for the outstanding campaign run in Shelton (see pictures below). The award was recognized at a special breakfast held at GE headquarters in Fairfield, and Valley United Way is the beneficiary of the $5,000 award that the Shelton committee garnered and designated to Valley United Way. Valley United Way is very appreciative of the special gift and all the support received from GE.
United Way President and C.O.O. Jack Walsh said, "We have an outstanding relationship with GE and it's an honor that they have designated this award to Valley United Way. Since the first day that they moved to Shelton, they have been model corporate citizens sharing their talents and treasures with the community and really making a difference in the lives of people who live and work here." He noted that GE CEO Jeff Immelt's remarks at the breakfast reaffirmed GE's commitment to improving the communities where they are based not only with their financial support, but also with the involvement of GE employees in the community.
Kristen Urso-Rio who was a member of the GE committee in Shelton is a good example of GE's commitment to the Valley. Kristen is a member of United Way's Board of Directors, and she is also one of the chairs of the Corporate Volunteer Council.
The total GE campaign this year for all areas amounted to more that $2.5 million dollars!
