Youth Leaders Helped Stamp Out Hunger With Letter Carriers

Students assisting at Spooner House

This year marked the 21st anniversary of the National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger national food drive, and Valley United Way was once again be involved through its Youth Leadership Program. The Youth Leaders have been volunteering for the project since the second year of the program. They annually provide the labor to help unload the massive amounts of food collected by the postal works as it is delivered to area food banks. Once again this year, they were stationed at the Spooner House in Shelton which also serves as the Valley's largest food bank. They work with the staff to unload the trucks and sort the tons of items for placement on the shelves at the food bank.

The Youth Leadership Program is made possible through the generous support of the Raymond P. Lavietes Foundation and The Prudential Foundation which provide core funding for the program.
